We received an email early Tuesday morning with a revised salary for the offer, which we were very happy to accept after a very long Monday. I believe Alan jumped about 3 feet into the air and let out a loud scream. After calmly composing an email response, it was complete. I asked him to check to make sure it was sent, a virtual pinch of sorts.
The past 24 hours has been a rush to learn as much information as we can. There are many decisions to make. Since we live in DC, we luckily do not have to worry about a move for A-100, like many others.
Alan officially signed off of the Yahoo group dedicated to those who are trying to get into the Foreign Service with:
* I'm probably the only person to ever get bonus points in the Tongan language.
* I'm possibly the only person to accept an A-100 offer, do a little woop-woop dance, and then immediately take a plunger to a backed-up toilet.
* I'll be one of the few who passed under the last offering of the FSWE system and the first offering of the new FSOT system.

Your blog has ben sooo helpful to me. My hubby just passd the test and we are waiting to hear about the interview...so needless to say we are a loooong ways off. But it's good to get a realistic view of the future.
No other blog out there has all the information, great pics, and humor like yours. Seriously.

Thanks for the encouragement Kay. I need to get back to posting again.
And congrats on your husband passing the written exam. If he hasn't already he should definitely join the Yahoo Group for those waiting to get in. It is a great community.
Kolkata has a relatively small expat community, but it is a close one that is active and very supportive.
There are many different churches in Kolkata, mainly because of the long history of missionary work here and the British legacy.
We also have a very supportive expat playgroup that meets regularly, with mothers in almost every type of situation.
Larger posts also have networks to draw upon. I know the embassy in New Delhi - which is one of our largest in the world - has several mother support groups.
Oh, and I am very jealous of the fact that you are near some of the best sandwiches in the world - the Philly cheese steak. My husband went to college near Philly, so we really love the city.
Keep me updated!
